KATU Ch 2 and Locksmiths

You might of heard Shellie Bailey-Shah's report on Bogus Locksmiths in Portland, Oregon. And a week later she did another report on Locksmiths in Portland, but that report never made it to their (KATU.com) web site, Why?

Shellie Bailey-Shah's report on locksmiths is ONLY about those locksmiths that she reported on. So don't let her story influence you about other locksmiths out there. Some locksmiths I know are bad but there are some out there that are good. You just need to do your own investigation and find the locksmith that you fill comfortable with. Everyone has their own impression of a locksmith.

Also, Shellie Bailey-Shah posted this info below on their (KATU.com) web site:

This is what you need to know if you are hiring a locksmith:

  • Do not rely on the phone book or the Internet to find a local company - physically verify that the store really exists.
  • Check the locksmith's license number with the Oregon Construction Contractor's Board. Any locksmith who is doing work on your house is required to have one.
  • Keep the name and phone number of a reputable locksmith in your wallet in case you lock your keys in your car. That way, you are not relying on directory assistance to find a locksmith in an emergency.

Where it says:
Do not rely on the phone book or the Internet to find a local company - physically verify that the store really exists.

Most locksmiths don't have a store front. So how can Shellie Bailey-Shah say things when she has no idea what she is talking about.  Also, my web site has everything you need to know about me and I am one of the few locksmiths that show my prices and stick to it.

Where it says:
Check the locksmith's license number with the Oregon Construction Contractor's Board. Any locksmith who is doing work on your house is required to have one.

A locksmith doesn't need a CCB license to unlock cars, home, and businesses, also to rekey locks. A locksmith ONLY needs a CCB license if he has employees, and if he is drilling holds in a door to install a new lock.

ALWAYS SEE IF THE LOCKSMITH HAS A OREGON BUSINESS LICENCE, IS BONED OVER $10,000, AND INSURANCED.

That's All,
Mark Errington
